Next Generation Cartographers Meetup
At Next Generation Cartographers we want to build an open and inclusive community to connect and support early career cartographers in both academic and professional fields. Join us for a casual get-together at nearby bar “The Point of Sale” to meet other cartographers, discover what NGC can do for you, and find out how you can get involved. Point of Sale offers various dishes and snacks, in case you would like to get dinner there. Drinks and food have to be covered by yourself.
We will meet at 7:30 pm and start with a short introduction to NGC and a small game at 8 pm. No registration is required and the meetup is open to anyone who identifies as Next Generation.
- Date and time: Monday, September 9th, 7:30 pm
- Location: The Point of Sale (→ OpenStreetMap, Google Maps)
- No registration required
Start-up meeting ICA working group on “Standards in Cartography”
We have the plan to create a new ICA working group on “Standards in Cartography”. This WG is supposed to to fulfil a liaison function: on the one hand keeping the ICA informed about the development and application of relevant standards, and on the other hand to represent the knowledge and the interests of cartographers in the organisations that set and maintain these standards. We have created a preliminary proposal, with the general idea and possible Terms of Reference to present to the ICA executive. We would like to further discuss that proposal in a brief open meeting during EuroCarto.
The meeting will take place during the lunch break (circa 12:45 – 1:45 pm CET) in the TU Vienna Cartography department’s Merkur Room. We will also set up an online meeting if people want to join online.
- Date and time: Tuesday, September 10th, 12:45 pm
- Location: Merkur Room, Wiedner Hauptstrasse 8-10 and online in Teams
- If you are interested, email b.j.kobben@utwente.nl, stating if you will attend online or in person
Vienna Mapped Out – a collective mapping experience
Experience Vienna from different perspectives.
The installation “Vienna Mapped Out”, developed in collaboration with the insitute of Art and Architecture of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, was inspired by Kevin Lynch’s famous interviews. You are invited to share your spatial images and personal impressions by sketching your individual view of the city of Vienna.
During the conference, participants will collaboratively establish a growing exhibition that displays individual viewpoints and encourages conversations.

Curated by: Antje Lehn (Academy of Fine Arts Vienna), Andrea Binn and Georg Gartner (TU Wien)

- Location: At the conferene venue, Foyer, 1st floor
Vienna 360° / Wien 360°
After learning that no map is completely accurate, Juliette wanted to build a map that used distortions to its benefit. The Vienna 360° is an experimental map that is projected with its users and environment in mind. Hung in a circle, this map depicts a panoramic-like visual that shows what’s in every direction from where you stand! Whichever direction you choose to go after visiting this installation, you will know what sites await you in the beautiful city of Vienna. This will be the first official build of the concept with hopes of adding more accessibility features and sustainable materials in future versions.
